Hi! I am Lisa Cogswell. I have been a bodybuilder for 12 years, and a C.P.F.T. for 6 years. I also have recently enjoyed competing in powerlifting, which has great effects on my physique for bodybuilding. In my last contest I weighed 160lbs. at 5-7. The powerlifting I have been doing has helped me to put on quality muscle and keep my muscle bellies full.

I started competing in bodybuilding in 1990 at the Oklahoma State bodybuilding contest. I trained for only 6 months and placed 2nd in the heavyweight class, losing first place by one point to a girl who had been training for 13 years. I came back and won the heavyweight and overall title in 1992 to become the Oklahoma State bodybuilding champ. In 1993 I won the bench press meet at NASA; I benched 185lbs.

In 1994 I competed in the Lone Star bodybuilding contest in Texas and won the heavyweight class and overall title. The next year I had my son Thanh Jacob Nguyen, my greatest blessing. I had a lot of complications with my pregnancy and could not train for a year and a half. I weighed close to 215lbs. A lot of my clients and women in general don’t believe that you can get into shape after childbirth; I wanted to prove otherwise.

I decided to try to compete in the 1997 Red River bodybuilding contest. I won the masters class and placed 2nd in the heavyweight class. In 1999 I went to the Oklahoma State bodybuilding contest I placed 1st in the master’s class and 1st in the heavyweight class and won the overall title again. 1999 was one of my biggest accomplishments; not only did I win the state in bodybuilding, I crossed over that same year and competed in powerlifting, and thanks to the help of world record holder, champion powerlifter Kotcha Doonkeen, I set two record-breaking lifts in the squat of 385lbs. and in the deadlift of 380lbs. I also won 1st in the bench press with a lift close to 265lbs.

I enjoy both sports, and hope to compete in both in the future. This year I was accepted into the physical therapy assistant program at O.K.C.C. and want to pursue my education to help athletes recover from injuries, so that they are able to get back into their sport.
